Durrant Collection - Norwich Castle Museum

One of the City's most famous landmarks, Norwich Castle was built by the Normans as a Royal Palace 900 years ago. Used as a prison from the 14th century, the Castle became a museum in 1894. Now the County's principal museum, the Castle is packed with treasures to inspire and intrigue visitors of all ages. Its outstanding collections of fine art, archaeology and natural history are of national importance.

Ken Durrant
Born at Cromer in 1920, Ken was fascinated by insects at the age of three. Twice president of the N&NNS and fellow of the Royal Entomological Society for 50 years. He was warden of Scarning Fen near Dereham for many years until promotion took him to Sheringham in 1972. Then he was asked to help restore Beeston Common back to its former glory and was warden until he retired aged 86. He died aged 90 in 2010.
His collection of more than 17,000 insects was donated to the Castle Museum, Norwich, as an educational resource for future generations.
