Norfolk status
Widespread and common in Norfolk.

Could be confused with Piniphila bifasciana but has much bolder brown and dark brown markings, lacking any ochreous tones. A well defined dark brown basal patch, median fascia narrow at costa dilating (expanding) from middle and subterminal fascia dilated brown.

Locally widespread in the south and south-east of England in fields, rough meadows, waysides, flower meadows and waste places.
Larva feeds within stems of Creeping Thistle.

Recorded in 56 (76%) of 74 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1888.
Last Recorded in 2023.
