Norfolk status Rare. (aka Warehouse moth) Pest species, a very common insect in tropical and temperate climates. Feeds on stored materials, nuts, almonds, cocoa beans and dried fruit, especially cacao (cocoa) and tobacco. A serious pest problem in the chocolate & tobacco industry! Sometimes found outdoors. Very similar to E. parasitella. Genitalia determination required.
Recorded at Upwell, W.Norfolk, Oct 2008. Stalham and Holme in 1995. Barrett (VCH 1901) :- "Norwich;very abundant in grocers' warehouses, probably similarly everywhere."Recorded in 5 (7%) of 69 10k Squares. First Recorded in 1900. Last Recorded in 2011. |
