Norfolk status Rare. Records only from Broadland sites including NNR Catfield Fen and the Ant and Bure Marshes region. This species is known only from north-eastern England, restricted now to a few areas close to the Humber and East Norfolk.
Like the similar Vapourer, the female is wingless. Male moths seldom come to light but can be assembled to a wingless female bred from larvae, and it is often recorded using this method.
The distinctive larvae, found mostly in May, feed on various broad-leaved trees and shrubs, including Hawthorn, Pedunculate Oak and Sessile Oak.
