Status Highly variable species, having several known forms. Local throughout much of the British Isles. A known pest on cultivated strawberry, with serious infestations once reported from the Wisbech and King's Lynn areas of Norfolk. Also recorded on Wet heathland, fens and marshes.
Certain forms of this species closely resemble forms of A. laterana, from which only reliably separated by dissection of the genitalia.
Unlike A. laterana, A. comariana is almost invariably smaller in size, and flies earlier, from June to July. However, A second brood, flying in late August to October, overlaps with the similar A. laterana, and a gen. det. would be required.
