Partially diurnal, this species is found throughout much of England and Wales, especially in the south, occurring in woodland, scrub, parkland, heathland, fens and gardens.
Records mainly from east Norfolk, although found throughout the county in suitable habitat.
The larvae feed internally in acorns and the nuts of sweet chestnut and Oak, forming a spongy gall.
