Status
Common and widespread.
One of several very similar moths which can be difficult to separate. Woodland, grassland, heathland, scrub and fens. Rests by day on tree-trunks, prefering oak.
Can be variable in size, dark markings on forewing often form shape of a cross.
One of the earliest scopariine to appear.
