Resident and migrant.
Males are darker and usually slightly smaller than the females.

A rare migrant before the 1930s, this species then began to colonise the area around London and the south-east, and has spread to several other areas since.

Two generations are being obseved in several southern counties, the second in September. Norfolk records support this.
