Status Local. Adult moths are highly variable in colour, ranging from sandy yellow to dark brown with faint wide cross-lines on both sets of wings.
The caterpillars feed in communal webs on low shrubs and sometimes trees, and are commonly found in suburban hedges and planting schemes. Adults may be hard to find but the brightly coloured caterpillars, seen April to June, are very conspicuous with their multi-coloured stripes and red hairs.Recorded in 44 (59%) of 74 10k Squares.
