Status Scarce/Local.
This moth is represented by three subspecies or forms in the British Isles. The nominate form satyrata, a relatively plain in appearance, non-descript weakly marked pug, occurs in Norfolk and generally in the southern half of England.
Heathland and chalk grassland, fens, flowery open woodland and rough ground.
Shows chequered black and white veins in fresh specimens, may not be clear in worn examples.
