Endemic to New Zealand, this species was first recorded in Britain in 2007 at a single location in Cornwall. Probably introduced to the area accidentally by a local nursery, it is now recorded regularly at the site, where it is thought to feed on Scots Pine, cypresses or Gorse, although larval evidence remains elusive.
