Found locally in woodland.
Unmistakable black wings and red collar.
Sometimes found flying in the daytime.
Migrant examples also occur.
The larvae feed on lichens and algae growing on tree-trunks in Autumn, and overwinter as a pupa.Recorded in 53 (72%) of 74 10k Squares.
