Unmistakable moth.
Grassland, fens, open woodland, scrub, heathland and gardens.

Comes to light at night, and can often be seen by day at rest or actively feeding in hot weather on flowers (especially Knapweeds)

The only likely confusion species is the extinct moth Viper's Bugloss.
