A scarce species found in marshy places, fens, and river banks.

In the nineteenth century the species was believed to be restricted to East Anglia in the fens at Chippenham and Wicken (Haggett,1981). It now occurs in only a few southern counties of England and south Wales.

Not listed by Barrett & Atmore (Trans. N&NNS) between 1873 and 1913, yet noted as recorded in Norfolk by South, 1908 (Moths of the British Isles. series ii. first ed.)

Larvae recorded in Norfolk along the banks of the River Wissey near Lynford in 1950. (Haggett, Ent. Gaz. 2. 1951)
