Status
Common immigrant.
Arrives in sufficient quantity each year to breed, but unable to over-winter in significant numbers. The moth is active by day and by night. Several generations occur, most frequent May - Sept.

Can turn up in thousands under the right conditions, especially at coastal migration watch-points. Recent research shows that Silver-Y flies at altitudes of up to 1.2km when migrating.

A tiny form f.gammina also occurs (please note in record comments)
