Unconfirmed old Norfolk records from Foxley Wood 1967 and two questionable BRC record card entries!
First modern-day confirmed Norfolk record at Toftwood in 2018 (D. Norgate, 26/07/18) Found on shed by the 20W Actnic trap left in garden overnight.
Formerly listed as a Red Data Book category RDB3 species, occurring as a breeding species only in the New Forest, Hampshire.
Several Norfolk records in recent years, with multiple records from the same sites indicating the species is now breeding in Norfolk.
Similar to the rare Light Crimson Underwing. DCU is usually larger and brown in general colouration, LCU is smaller and greyer. The hindwing upperside is the most reliable feature to separate. DCU black cross-bar deeply waved. LCU black cross-bar much straighter with shallow waves. See field guides for more info.
