Status Local. Scarce. Conifer plantations.
Distribution is incompletely known due to confusion with the very similar O. friesei.
There is very little to separate this species from Ocnerostoma friesei. Attention should be paid to the antenna, which is ringed white and pale grey in the male and white in the female.
O. piniariella flies between the first two broods of O. friesei in June-July, although can overlap.
