Status Scarce in coniferous woodland and plantations in parts of south-eastern England. Originally known only from a few specimens taken in the New Forest and Woolmer Forest, Hampshire.
Female larger, and general colouration variable between sexes (see comparison below)
Adult moths fly from mid-afternoon to early evening, flying actively around conifers at dusk. The larvae feed from September to June, overwintering in a silken tube spun between needles of the foodplant, feeding on new shoots in the spring.
