Norfolk Status
Locally found in the Broads.

The first British specimen was taken at Hickling, 7th July 1974, but only identified in 1979. (D. Agassiz) The species was added to the British list by T. Peet from a series taken in July 1975 from the same locality. Ent. Nat. Hist. Soc. 1979.

Prior to the 1990ís Coleophora hydrolapathella was only known from the Norfolk Broads and some Suffolk coastal marshes.

The larva feeds from a reddish brown, tubular case made entirely of silk on flowers and seeds of Water dock (Rumex hydrolapathum).

A training session for reserve wardens at a known site in Norfolk on 27th February 2015 was very successful, with over 30 larval cases found. As a result of the workshop a new site for the species has been discovered in an area of the Broads with no previous records. It would appear that this site supports a strong colony. [T. Davis]
