Norfolk status Smaller than Stenoptilia pterodactyla; greyish rather than brown, more prominent spots to the forewing giving a peppered look. It is quite likely these two species are being confused and mis-recorded in Norfolk.
Specimens found as larvae on Scabiosa columbaria in the Brecks have been attributed to Stenoptilia annadyctyla which has similar wings, but distinct differences in the female genitalia.
Examination of the genitalia is therefore advised.
Final instar larvae is usualy green with a dark red dorsal line bordered by yellow/green subdorsal lines.
Grassland and scrub.
