Sycamore Slender

([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775)291 / 15.013
Norfolk status
Very rare in Britain, only known from a few central English counties.

Very similar to variegated forms of Caloptilia elongella and C. betulicola, aslo summer form of C. falconipennella
The presence of three red-brown bands in the terminal cilia should aid determination.

Up until recently it was thought unlikely to occur in Norfolk, however, recently recorded in Suffolk on several occasions from 2013 (males and females)

It is now thought that this species will feed on field maple as well as possibly sycamore, any mines found should be reared through to confirm.

Listed by Barrett in 1874 at Merton.

New for VC27 and first post-Victorian record at Norwich in 2019 (J. Farthing, 26/07/19 - Gen. Det. J. Clifton)

[MBGBI Vol 2]

Retained Specimen / Photograph will be Required.

Mine: Moth needs to be reared and, in some cases, possibly dissected.

Recorded in 7 (9%) of 74 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1874.
