Norfolk status Rare. Double or triple-brooded. Males have pale grey forewings, females are white.
Can be confused with the similar pine feeding species Ocnerostoma piniariella. O. friesei initially has an earlier flight time, however a gen. det. is required to confirm any specimens.
Note differences in antennae, Ocnerostoma friesei: grey. O. piniariella: ringed white and pale grey (male) and white (female) To see this, a very good hand lens or low-powered microscope with good lighting is required.
The larvae, not distinguishable from O. piniariella, mine the needles of the foodplant from December to March, June to July and sometimes September.
