Ocnerostoma friesei
Grey Pine Ermine

(Svensson, 1966)445 / 16.024
Norfolk status
Double or triple-brooded.
Males have pale grey forewings, females are white.

Can be confused with the similar pine feeding species Ocnerostoma piniariella.
O. friesei initially has an earlier flight time, however a gen. det. is required to confirm any specimens.

Note differences in antennae, Ocnerostoma friesei: grey. O. piniariella: ringed white and pale grey (male) and white (female)
To see this, a very good hand lens or low-powered microscope with good lighting is required.

The larvae, not distinguishable from O. piniariella, mine the needles of the foodplant from December to March, June to July and sometimes September.

First Norfolk record at Dersingham in 2011 (R.Jones, 14/04/11)
