Open country and urban areas, frequenting mossy walls and old thatch!

One of three similar dark Bryotropha, the speckled forewing, yellow scales and tornal patches are distinctive features.

As in B. umbrosella, a completely pale coastal form exists and is occasionally recorded (Gen. Det. Required)
