Norfolk status
Rare.
Found in marshes, fens, river-banks and other damp areas.

Very few confirmed Norfolk records, mainly from the Broads, including Burgh Common (K. Saul, 1992), Sutton (K. Saul, K. Bland, 1999), Wayford (K. Saul, 2010), Woodbastwick (K. Saul, 2013), Strumpshaw (C. Lewis, 2015). Further records from the Broads in recent years.

New for West Norfolk at Boughton Fen in 2013 (D. Jones).

The Larvae feed on the catkins of Sallow.

When fresh, G. muscosella has a moss-green tinge to the forewing which can be useful to separate this from other Gelechid species. Similar to Gelechia nigra, but has a greyer mottled forewing not black. Worn specimens will require Gen. Det.

Retained Specimen / Photograph will be Required.

Recorded in 10 (14%) of 74 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1874.
Last Recorded in 2023.
