Flies by day and at dusk in warm, dry weather and also comes to light.
Found in dry, sandy or chalky habitats and rough fields or downs plus coastal areas.
The larvae feed in the lower stem and root of the foodplant.

First Norfolk record at Cranwich Heath in 2012 (K. Rosewarne, I. Barton, 10/06/12)
