Norfolk status Widespread. Occurs on rough grassy hillsides, fens, railway banks and waste ground. Widespread records from across Norfolk.
One of three similar looking species. Separated from Neocochylis hybridella by the lack of a white thorax, and from Cochylichroa atricapitana by the white head and labial palpi (black in C. atricapitana).
Distributed widely in the south of Britain, but becomes scarcer in the north.
