Variable species, with several named forms and subspecies. Ground colour from yellowish to white.
Open habitats.

Form ab.obsoletissima orange ground colour with brown veins, first recorded at Wells, 1950 (NHM - Cockayne) later at Holme Dunes 1999 and 2001 (G. Hibberd). All that is known of this remarkable form is that it inhabits the east coast of England from Suffolk to Lincs.
